U Can Share Food Drive Goes Until Saturday
Cabinets in houses throughout the South Plains have been opening to share what they have with the South Plains Food Bank. It’s the 29th annual U Can Share food drive going on this week. Throughout it’s history the drive has collected 10 million pounds of food and nearly 2 million dollars. Donations are coming in from individuals, area schools, businesses and organizations with this year’s goal a half million pounds of food and $150,000. Throughout the week, KCBD television and radio shows are out at the main collection site of the United store at 82nd and Frankford. KQBR 99.5 the Bear’s “Rick and Jane” will be on location with their morning show, 6-10 a.m. Thursday taking listeners’ donations. The Christmas-time food drive has become one of Lubbock’s most- treasured traditions, helping to eliminate hunger. And this year, according to the food bank, the need has increased, with many more people applying for food. If you want to donate, take some cans from your shelves…or maybe some non-perishable items like beans, macaroni, etc. Or go to their site to donate financially. It’s a way to show we care. We can share what we have.
