The Red Raiders Hold On And Upset #3 Oklahoma 41 to 38

Laura Hagan Bixler

Remember the move “Nightmare On Elm Street? Well, for Oklahoma Sooner fans they woke up this morning and realized their nightmare was real. The Texas Tech Red Raiders came into Norman, and with no one giving them a chance, grabbed their first win in Norman since 1996.

Tech quarterback Seth Doege was on. He combined for five touchdowns, passing for four and rushing for another. Receiver Alex Torres had a career three touchdown recepetions. Oh yeah, Doege didn’t throw an interception either.

The win propelled the Red Raiders to #19 in the Associated Press Poll and #22 in the USA Today’s Coaches Poll.

The Red Raiders all but dashed any hopes of Oklahoma playing for a national championship. Plus, the chances of the Sooners playing in a BCS bowl are slim at best.

Tech snapped Oklahoma’s NCAA leading 39-game home win streak. The win give Tech a 4-3 record against the Sooners since 2005.

This win shows that Tech, when all things are clicking, they can play with anybody. Tech Seth Doege threw for 441 yards and Tech racked up 572 total yards against Oklahoma. That wasn’t supposed to happened according to the “experts”.

The game is a great example of the players not listening to talk around them on how they couldn’t win. When the Sooners would scored, Tech wasted no time in coming back answering that score.

It was pointed out that Oklahoma was without some of their major players. Well, if you checked, so was Tech. But the Red Raiders had players, young players, come and step up.

What was really neat, was the win came on national t.v. You know that helps in recruiting and putting Tech’s name out there.
The win puts the Red Raiders at 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in the conference. You talk about momentum going into this Saturday’s game at the Jones against Iowa State. “Holy Red Raider”.

Seth Doege is the nation’s fourth-leading passer, with three 400-yard passing efforts so far and in six of Tech’s seven games he has passed for over 300 yards. Yet no one has been talking about this guy.

Well the Walter Camp Football Foundation has. They named Doege the national offensive player of the week after his performance against the Sooners. Congratulations.

Now that the Red Raiders have shocked the Sooner nation, a lot of folks will start taking notice of Mr Doege and the rest of the Red Raiders.
