Glen Campbell’s Final Curtain, The CMA’s vs. Ellen DeGeneres [VIDEO]

Glen Campbell has been receiving a ton of attention recently because of the special recognition that he was awarded at the recent CMA awards in Nashville. Glen was diagnosed last year with Alzheimer’s Disease and it has already taken at least part of Glen’s ability to perform, so he and his family of musicians has taken to the road for one last tour. During his recognition at the CMA Awards Glen seemed to be really uncomfortable not being on stage to sing his biggest songs. Jimmy Webb, the writer of “Wichita Lineman” and many of Glen’s other hit songs was featured playing the keyboards while Vince Gill and Keith Urban handled the singing duties. After the songs, Glen was introduced to the stage and was promptly handed a guitar. His guitar? A guitar from the CMA’s? Nobody know’s. As a matter of fact, Glen reached into his pants pocket and out came a guitar pick…just as the CMA awards faded to commercials. One of Country Music’s most important studio musicians and performers was rudely cut off with no explanation at all. In case you didn’t see Glen’s feature on the CMA awards, here it is.

Now, here is the way it should have happened. Just days before the CMA awards, Glen and his family appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Glen sang Ellen’s favorite song “Wichita Lineman.” One of the most compelling Country songs ever to be recorded, along with one of Country’s biggest Stars.. It’s Glen Campbell, the way it SHOULD have happened in Nashville by his own peers.
