Water Restrictions That Could Arise in the City of Lubbock

zdenadel, Flickr

The city of Lubbock is currently in Stage 2 of their drought contingency plan and could be headed towards Stage 3 soon enough. Some Lubbockites know the seriousness of this action taken by the city while some will still break the rules and do what they want.

Some examples of the restrictions right now include:

  • Irrigation shall provide a maximum of 1.5 inches per zone per week.
  • Hand watering for landscape irrigation purposes is allowed on a daily basis regardless of the time of the year.
  • Winter irrigation may only occur when temperatures are above 35°F so as not to cause a freezing hazard and shall provide a maximum of 1.0 inch per zone per month for dormant grasses (i.e., Bermuda) and 1.0 inch per zone every two weeks for cool season grasses (i.e., Fescue).

A full list of restrictions can be can found on the City of Lubbock Website.

That got me thinking on what water restrictions could arise if we don’t see a drastic change in the weather. Here is the list I have compiled of things that could become restricted in the near future.

  1. Watering your dog outside.
  2. Watering your cat outside.
  3. Washing your RV.
  4. Showering only allowed once a week.
  5. Only two cubes of ice per ice tea.
  6. Water Balloons outlawed.
  7. Water hoses are for jump rope use only.
  8. Only tall drinking fountains to carry water.
  9. Slip & Slides can only be used with syrup.
  10. Coors Light to abolish their cold activated mountains.
  11. Three day waiting period to purchase a water gun.
  12. H2O officially changed to HO.
  13. Cat Fishing literally means fishing for cats.

There is no time table for when or if these restrictions could be enforced, but I will one will not tolerate the three day waiting period for the water gun. I’ll buy black market water pistols if need be.

Feel free to add to my list of restrictions below in our Facebook Widget. It’s only a matter of time before we need Jesus to change wine to water.
