Pool Side

Lubbock has always had a fantastic selection of pools to stay cool by all summer long. The majority of the good pools in Lubbock are found at the apartment complexes and college hangouts. Most every apartment complex that is geared towards the college lifestyle will have a pool but there is one that is leaps and bounds cooler than any other. The usual hangout, for when it gets hot, is the big pool at the Gateway apartment complex. The circle shaped pool at the Gateway gives you a wide open view of everything happening, and there is a separate pool for just volleyball. They also have chairs to layout, or pass out, on. Spend your Memorial Day weekend poolside with the cool water of the pool at Gateway.

The Science Spectrum

The Science Spectrum, here in Lubbock, is easily the coolest place on the list, temperature wise. It’s a full day of fun indoors and perfect for those fascinated with everything from the human body, the world of technology or like watching great documentaries. The Science Spectrum also excels when it comes to activities for your kids. They always have something going on at the Science Spectrum and this Memorial Day weekend and it’s great for falling back in love with everything you used to love as a kid and for letting your kids cut loose while still learning.

Cookout at the Park:

There are plenty of parks to have the ultimate Memorial Day BBQ at and Lubbock has some of the finest parks around. This Memorial Day weekend, gather up the family or grab a group of friends and relax the day away at the park of your choice. Grilling, games and great times are never far away. The best park for sitting around and grilling though would have to be Maxey Park. Maxey Park offers up a great playground for the kids, a manmade lake, plenty of grills and picnic tables galore. The only thing missing is you. Maxey also houses baseball fields that kids of any age can use. Make it your stop for your Memorial Day weekend.

Go to the movies:

Memorial Day weekend is usually the start to the summer blockbuster season for movies. This year’s big releases for the Memorial Day weekend include a pair of long awaited sequels including The Hangover 2 and Kung Fun Panda 2. Both movies will join that latest installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean and Thor. Every theater in town will carry these four big movies but the best time you could have in the city is out at the Stars and Stripes Drive In. Take your kids, family, sweetie or just go alone and enjoy two movies for the price of one, a 50’s style diner and some of the biggest blockbusters to hit the summer screens.
