Monday, January 23, is National Reading Day, a day to encourage students to read. It is thought by this encouragement, a foundation will be laid for students Pre K through 3rd grade in lifelong learning. And Texas Tech University is getting involved. Two authors Michelle Pantoya, a mechanical engineering professor at Texas Tech and Emily Hunt, a professor at West Texas A&M, accompanied by Tech President Guy Bailey, will read to elementary students a book entitled, "Pride by Design" . According to Texas Tech Communications and Marketing, the recently-published book aims to gain young interest in engineering by portraying how sports and engineering go hand in hand. The group will be at Ramirez Charter School, 702 Ave T at 2:30 Monday afternoon.
