The CMAs are coming up this week and if you’ve been following Taylor Swift‘s career, like most of us, you might be stunned to realize she’s been nominated for the FIRST time in the CMA’s “Song of the Year” category for “Mean”. The winner of that award is the songwriter and it’s among the most coveted awards in Nashville. Now, she’s won a bunch of CMAs but never for the songwriting category so this little ditty, a rebuttal to all those mean people, means a lot to her.

Taylor tells the Associated Press, “Getting a CMA nomination for ‘Mean’ was definitely a jumping-up-and-down moment for me because this song is really close to my heart…it’s a song that I wrote on a really, really bad day, but it has produced so many happy days for me since.” Also in the category are Zac Brown, Coy Boyles, Wyatt Durett and Levi Lowry for Zac Brown Band’s “Colder Weather”; Kimberly Perry for the Band Perry’s “If I Die Young”; Brantley Gilbert and Colt Ford for Jason Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem”; and Deana Carter and Matraca Berg for Kenny Chesney’s “You and Tequila”. And, by the way,”Mean” went to the number one spot in country and adult contemporary charts. We’ll see what happens Wednesday night at 7p.m. (Central) on ABC. Here’s that nominated-song that shows Taylor Swift’s terrific songwriting ability.
