On the "retro rack" today is a singer who blends country and rock and attracts fans from both of those types of music.

 

Dwight Yoakum had tried his luck in Nashville but nothing clicked. So he moved out to Los Angeles in 1978.

By the mid 80's he teamed with producer Pete Anderson and released an EP "Guitars and Cadillacs, Etc. Reprise Records was impressed and re-released it with four extra tracks and they even put an extra "Etc" on it.

The album ended up going platinum in 1989. Through the 80's, according to cmt.com, Yoakum scored with nine Top 10 hits, which included the number one hit "Streets of Bakersfield", a duet with country music legend Buck Owens.

Yoakum also appeared on the silver screen in movies such at "Sling Blade" in 1996 and "Panic Room" in 2002.
