It's not such a shocking headline that smoking actors onscreen have declined. But the trend seems to be really pronounced in films aimed at children and teens. Three companies, Warner Brothers, Universal and Walt Disney, were considered in a five year study. It revealed that scenes involving tobacco are non existent in youth-oriented films; and toward age groups, smoking scenes dropped from an average of 23 per film to one. Smoking seems to have lost it's "cool" factor for some movie makers. But Lauren Bacall is pretty cool in this scene from the classic "To Have and Have Not" with Humphrey Bogart. Check it out.
