National Capitol’s Cherry Blossoms Start Their Peak this Weekend

The cherry trees in Washington D.C. have already started blooming but the peak begins this Saturday, March 24, and lasts about a week, but the celebrating goes on for over a month! Millions of tourists flow into that area of the nation just to see the blossoms. The trees were originally a friendship gift from Japan to this country--100 years ago this year! More than a hundred of the original trees still stand and thousands of others have been planted since.

Foxnews.com reports celebrations start Sunday with Japanese art exhibits at the National Gallery of Art, and Japanese photography of Mt. Fuji at the Smithsonian. Vendors will offer a multitude of cherry-flavored foods just prior to fireworks courtesy of a Japanese company. The beautiful blossoms provide a pleasant reminder of maintaining friendships between nations.
