I missed a lot of the Maines Brothers Band excitement in Lubbock early on in their career even though, being from Floydada I knew who they were and loved their music.  I had just moved back to Texas from doing radio on the coast of California when I ended up doing afternoon drive at KIXZ in Amarillo.  It was 1984 and "Amarillo Highway" was huge.  Little did I know that a life long friendship with Jerry, Steve, Lloyd and the rest would begin in a small control room in Amarillo, Texas.  We laughed on the air about how screwed up the real Amarillo Highway was as construction had it tore up for miles.  That night the Maines Brothers opened for Joe Ely and what a show it was. They gave me a cap I wish I still had.

I know a lot of folks really looking forward to the show Saturday night.  We just don't get enough Maines Brothers live shows anymore.. Each member having their own jobs, paying the bills, living life, and I for one hope this is not the last Maines Brothers show.  That one needs to have cold beer and dancing, the way it all started.  We'll see ya'll Saturday night.  Till then, try these on.
