Lady Raider forward Kierra Mallard was named the player of the week in the Big 12. The honor came her way because of her play in the Lady Raiders wins over Texas State and then #16 Penn State.

Mallard is the first Tech player to receive the honor this season. Her 18 points and 15 rebounds was her third double-double so far this year and the 19th of her career.

People will talk about Lady Raider Jordan Barncastle's winning 3 pointer against Penn State, but Mallard also hit a huge 3 pointer with 1:22 left in the game that gave Tech a four point cushion of 67-63, so when Penn State's Alex Bentley came down a drained a 3, Tech was still up by one.

Then when Barncastle hit her shot, Tech went up by four and game over.

With the win over the Lady Lions, Tech moves up to #16 in the Associated Press Poll. Tech's non-conference win streak at home stands at 38.

The rebuilding process coach Kristy Curry has been going through is now paying off. There are only two seniors on this team, the rest are juniors, sophmores and a freshman in Amber Battle, the best player out of New Mexico.

This is a team that went to the NCAA tournament last year so there are big expectations this year.

The Lady Raiders will host UT-Arlington this Wednesday at 7pm in the United Spirit Arena.
