Jerry Jeff Walker, born in 1942 and probably most famous for writing the song "Mr. Bojangles." Here in Texas he is one of the forefathers of the musical movement we have come to know as Red Dirt. One of Jerry Jeff's songs was heard in almost every bar or night club in Lubbock during the mid to late 70's. "Viva Terlinqua" was recorded at one of Red Dirt's home bases for legendary show's, the Luckenbach Dance Hall. "London Homesick Blues" written by Gary P. Nunn became an anthem in Texas and remains so to this day. If you ask any of the "older guys" in the Red Dirt business who their early influences were, Jerry Jeff will remain one of the biggest, and for that, we give you the Top 5 from Jerry Jeff Walker.
