“I felt like a stage mom all night,” gushed Jennifer Nettles following the final solo performances during tonight’s ‘Duets’ episode. The Sugarland lead singer’s elation is well-deserved, considering her two proteges managed to land in the Top 3 after Bridget Carrington got the boot early in the episode. With the added pressure of next week’s finale looming over J Rome and John Glosson, the two clear frontrunner remained calm and composed during both of their performances. All three contestants were asked to perform a duet with their celebrity mentor, as well as a final solo performance to close the show.

Nettles and J Rome kicked off tonight’s episode with their version of the 2011 pop smash ‘Breakeven,’ by the Script. The song choice seemed odd, but beneficial.

“I think it’s a great song,” said Robin Thicke. The soul singer acknowledged the unpredictable song choice, but offered J Rome critical praise. “I wouldn’t think it would be right for your voice, but the fact you made it your own is a testament to your talent,” added Thicke.

Kelly Clarkson has been a clear supporter of J Rome, despite having her own contestant in the Top 3. Even with the stiff competition, the ‘Mr. Know It All’ singer is quick to give J Rome props.

“I’m mad. I’m mad — you’re so good,” said the Texas native. “You did so well. It’s not as exciting as other songs. You chose a song that I didn’t think you would choose, but it was perfect.”

Much like the his celebrity mentor peers, John Legend offered J Rome a similar assessment, saying, “I’ve decided everything is right for your voice. Your chemistry is really infectious and cool,” referring to his onstage relationship with Nettles.

J Rome chose to perform ‘Signed, Sealed and Delivered’ by Stevie Wonder for his solo performance, telling the cameras that the classic R&B song is his “favorite song ever.”

“J Rome came into this competition already ready in my opinion,” Nettles said of her frontrunner protege. “This was a stepping stone to take it to the next level.”

“It is all on the line this week, so we have to bring it,” Glosson told the cameras prior to his performances this evening. With the pressure of next week’s finale looming over his head, the young singer stayed within his comfort zone this week with his duet with Nettles, performing the gorgeous Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion classic ‘The Prayer.’

Playfully dubbing Glosson as “Georgia Bocelli” all season, Thicke gave the Georgia native a nod for tackling such a challenging song.

“He is Georgia Bocelli right there,” acknowledged Thicke. The soul singer was quick to inform the big-voiced singer he was off-key on one note, but assured Glosson he finished the rangy ballad with a bang.

“You are wonderful. Your voice is magnificent,” Legend said following the performance. “You sounded beautiful tonight and that song took advantage of all your strengths.”

Clarkson closed the critique with equal praise. “There is something super special with your voice,” said the singer. “It’s hypnotic. It’s a blessing.”

Glosson chose another beautiful ballad, Rascal Flatts‘ ‘Bless the Broken Road,’ for his solo performance — with all three judges praising the singer for his song choice.

Fans of J Rome and John Glosson have one last chance to support their ‘Duets’ favorite as the winner will be announced during next week’s live finale.
