Since announcing that Gary Allan was in the studio working on new music back in March, we have all been waiting patiently for any sign as to when we can expect the music. Well good news for all … the album is finished!

“I turned [the album] in [last week], and right now we’re mastering it,” Allan reveals in a recent interview with the Bangor Daily News in Maine. “It’s a really up album. It’s a more rocking album than I’ve ever done. It covers everything from breaking up to healing.”

Allan says the album’s lead track, ‘A Tough Goodbye,’ sets the bar for the rest of the project to unfold. “It really goes from there,” he notes. “It goes from anger to healing.”

Allan, who has done his share of healing over the years, says his albums tend to capture his emotions at the time of recording. “Every album is all about wherever I’m at,” the singer explains. “It’s totally about my frame of mind. If I’m a mess, then I think it’s going to be a mess. If I’m partying, I think it’s gonna be a huge hit! It’s a mirror to whatever I’m going through. Music has always been very therapeutic for me. When friends come over to write, it’s very open.”

In the same interview, Allan praises the work of hot newcomer Josh Thompson, as the two are currently on the 2012 Country Throwdown Tour together. Allan says Thompson is one of his favorite new artists in country music, adding he “is a great songwriter [and] a great singer. He’s gonna be around for a while.”
