Family Fun in “Lucy and the Outlaw” [VIDEO]

Christena Stephens

If you’re looking for some great music and a lot of laughs for the whole family, the fare being offered at the Cactus Theatre in the Depot District this month is the answer. “Lucy and the Outlaw”, set in the Old West in the late 1800s, written and directed by yours truly, proved to be an audience-pleaser on opening weekend.

The eight cast members blend their voices on a plethora of songs from “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” to “Ghost Riders in the Sky”, and add comedy throughout a goofy storyline of railroad agents chasing train robbers. It’s silly–so the audience is asked to throw popcorn at the villain, Congressman Dewey Cheatham (and How!), aptly played by stage veteran Mike Morgan. Of course the title character is Lucy which Mariel Morgan has morphed into, complete with the “foot-stuck-in-the-bucket” trick.

Did I mention music? You can’t get any better musicians and singers than Marilyn Arland, Jere Lowe, Mark Paden and West Garza. And I do a little joke-telling, singing and laughing. Come have fun with us. “Lucy and the Outlaw” runs every weekend in March. Tickets are $20 with special group rates available. Call 806-762-3233 for info, and come enjoy the fun!

Oh yes, new to the Cactus stage, Kenneth Winchester, a baptist preacher from Southland takes on the role of the town barber, Elwood Cutter and gives his take on this Ray Stevens’ song. On stage we have as much fun as they’re having in the video.
