With this age of technology I shouldn't be surprised anymore. But I'm still amazed at the capabilities of the internet. This Friday, October 28, is the 125th birthday of the Statue of Liberty and internet-connected cameras will be part of the celebration. The cameras will be positioned in her torch to give internet users a 180-degree view. You'll be able to watch as ships go by in the harbor, plus observe the construction at the World Trade Center.

The cameras are made possible by a company known as Earthcam. Go to their website for viewing once the cameras are turned on Friday. Also at the ceremony will be a water flotilla and actress Sigourney Weaver reading Emma Lazarus's poem, "The New Colossus". In 1903 this poem, which experts say salutes the statue as the "Mother of Exiles", was engraved and placed inside the Statue of Liberty. Quite a birthday party for Lady Liberty!
