Darius Rucker has been successful in two music genres...pop, with Hootie and the Blowfish, and now country. He says the audiences are similar in that they just want to stand up and dance. His taste in music has always been mixed and remembers as a child singing music that would affect him his whole life. He tells Press of Atlantic City, "The reason I sing--the person who made me believe I could do this-- is Al Green. My first memory as a kid was being four and standing in the living room with my mom and her friend singing Al Green songs with a salt shaker as my microphone. My favorite Al Green song of all time is 'For the Good Times'. As I got older and started to be a songwriter, I realized 'For the Good Times' was written by Kris Kristofferson, and pretty much on every record Al Green took a country song and made it an R&B song." Here's a terrific Darius Rucker song.
