John Paul White of the Civil Wars accepted his duo’s 2014 Grammy Award for Best Duo/Group Performance during the pre-show ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night (Jan. 26).

‘From This Valley’ from the duo’s new self-titled album topped four more mainstream country nominees for the Civil Wars’ second win in this category and third overall.

The song beat performances by two country legends, last year’s winner in the Best Duo/Group Performance category and the CMAs winner for Musical Event of the Year. Kelly Clarkson and Vince Gill were nominated for ‘Don’t Rush,’ Little Big Town was nominated for ‘Your Side of the Bed,’ Tim McGraw (feat. Taylor Swift and Keith Urban) were up for ‘Highway Don’t Care’ and Kenny Rogers was up for ‘You Can’t Make Old Friends’ with Dolly Parton.

White swaggered to the stage when the duo’s name was announced, but Joy Williams did not appear.

“I want to apologize to Dolly Parton for depriving her of anything at all,” White joked before calling her a hero of his. He then thanked his wife, four kids and their plumber, but did not mention Williams at all. The two are famously feuding, and it’s not clear how closely they work together these days.

The Civil Wars won this award for the song ‘Barton Hollow’ in 2011. The ‘Barton Hollow’ album also took the Grammy for Best Folk Album that year.
