I made rounds a little after seven this morning. As I drove down the dam road, I spied a couple of doe eating on the south side. The buzzards on the guard rails scattered as I approached.
We spotted some very interesting birds this week.
There are several species of animals roaming around Lubbock County. We come across many at the lake each week.
The "Common Grey Fox" has been spotted several times along the shore as well as along the canyon rims
I recently spotted a tuxedo-clad fisherman out at the lake. The off- white ruffles on his chest complemented the dark color of his sides and shoulders. His intensity as he fished was exceptional. The steely look in his eye proved he was a determined taskmaster as he surveyed the surface of the water.
There are several cool places to fish around Buffalo Springs Lake. If you like fishing from the docks, there are several including Paul's Pond, a little cove with a covered fishing spot!
Some of our anglers enjoy fishing in the inlet pond, where our lake receives water from the creek through the V8 Ranch to the west
The annual Buffalo Wing Cook-off is this weekend, April 13-14, at Buffalo Springs Lake! Buffalo Springs Lake will be paying out $10,000 in prize money!
Buffalo Springs Lake has added 30 brand new shoreline camping spots. This RV campground has electric and water hookups right on the west shoreline of the upper end of the lake.
This allows RV campers to back right up to the lake and wet a hook without having to walk down to the shoreline
Buffalo Springs Lake has 1207 acres inside it's fence lines. The wildlife here is very diverse including a variety of birds, feral hogs, fox, coyotes, and an abundance of deer. While Lubbock County has no hunting season for deer, the lake property has both white tail deer and mule deer as well as a few that appear to be cross breeds of the two types. Many of these deer venture off from the V8 Ranch to the west of Buffalo Springs Lake.
Not only does Buffalo Springs Lake have boating, fishing, hiking, ATV trails, swimming, camping and spots for holding family reunions, they also have a variety of feathered friends on the lake!
