Every year a South Plains Barbershop group known as The Singing Plainsmen serenades people for Valentine's Day. And Monday morning, yours truly was delightfully surprised with a rose and song from "Crosstown Sound", a quartet from the group.
Coming up Sunday at 5pm is Super Bowl XLVI and most football fans love watching this pro team matchup--this year pitting the NY Giants against New England. People are planning parties around the event and there's a great fund-raiser going on that gives those Super Bowl fans what they want, plus helps some kids out.
If you have a new or gently used prom/party dress or a tuxedo/suit you'd like to get rid of, The Bridge of Lubbock will take them. This organization is a privately-funded Christian non-profit in East Lubbock seeking to restore hope in the community. The gathering of the fancy clothes is all part of helping teenagers who otherwise can't afford to go to prom.
I can't remember life without Girl Scout cookies. From today through March 4, 2012 you can buy yours. It's a fund raising program that's been around about 80 years in the 100 years the Girl Scouts have been organized.
This Saturday at several United locations Matador Jerky wants you to help send some jerky to troops from West Texas serving here and overseas. Throughout the day from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Matador Jerky, Frito-Lay and 99.5 the Bear will be taking your donations to buy a package of jerky to be sent to the troops.
There's a great fund-raiser going on Sunday, January 15 at Whitewood Lanes in Lubbock. It's the 7th annual Bowl for the Cure event which helps in the fight against breast cancer. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Komen Lubbock.

This year Jimmy Wayne released his first novel, "Paper Angels" which is based on his song of the same name from 2003. We wrapped up our West Texas Tour of Cheverolet Dealers this past weekend with trips to Littlefield, Lamesa, and Scoggin Dickey here in Lubbock.
