This "Man of Music," is probably the best known native-born Lubbockite. Buddy Holly's birthday is Wednesday, September 7. If a tragic plane crash in 1959 hadn't cut his life short, Buddy would be 75 this year. A special commemoration of his birthday will be held as a celebration at the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock. Free tours are being offered Wednesday at the center at 1801 Crickets Ave. beginning at 10 a.m. Then "The Real Buddy Holly Story," produced by Paul McCartney in 1978, will be screened at 11. At 1:30 there's a live feed of the presentation of Buddy Holly's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Until 8:30 Wednesday night you can enjoy guided tours, live music and birthday cake. Here's a classic piece of video from Buddy Holly and the Crickets on television in 1957.
