Lubbock Holiday Tradition

Funny, how when we live somewhere, we forget all the wonderful things our city offers. Looking for something to get you out of the malls and into the Holiday Spirit, then check out ”The 55th Annual Carol of Lights” this coming Tuesday, December 3rd.
The  Ceremony is set to start at 6:30 p.m. with a Carillon Concert. What is a Carillion Concert? Good question, I had to google it - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carillon. Whew, that’s a lot of bells with each one owning it’s own sound. Am wondering if we could have a similar concert at my house using water glasses.

At 7:00 p.m., the Masked Rider and Horse, Saddle Tramps Torch Light Processional and High Riders will begin at the University Seal at the Broadway Entrance and follow the Luminaria Lighted Route around Memorial Circle to the Science Quadrangle.

And during the evening, we get to listen to the Texas Tech University Choirs accompanied by The Tech Trombone Choir. I plan to bring my kazoo and play along quietly in the crowd.

Of course, there will be traffic restrictions – so be prepared:
The University Police Department will close off vehicle access to Memorial Circle and the Broadway Entrance for the ceremony Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013 at 5:30 p.m.  The parking area in the Quadrangle will be cleared by 5:30 p.m., Monday, December 2nd, 2013 to prepare staging and sound equipment.

If you can’t make it out for the initial ceremony, at least you can check out the lights as they will be turned on every night from dusk until midnight from  December 4th, 2013 through January 1st, 2014.
