Alan Jackson is 54 years old and has had more success in his country career than he could have dreamed of. But, there's one thing that's been missing from his repertoire: a bluegrass album. Now, it's become a reality, as the singer has just announced the album and its release date.

Jackson took to Twitter to make the big announcement, saying, "Finally! The long-awaited Bluegrass album from AJ comes out on Sept. 24!!" He also tweeted a photo of him and a whole crew of folks standing in a recording studio -- a true picture of what's to come from the 'Don't Rock the Jukebox' singer.

This pure bluegrass album has been a long time in the making, as he told the Boot last summer, “I’ve always wanted to make a bluegrass album. I tried to do that before with ['Like Red On a Rose' produced by] Alison Krauss," he said. "She took me in there and we made that easy-listening album. It was a cool album and I’m really proud of that, too. But it was a long way from bluegrass by the time we got through with it.”

Although it's been a dream of his, Jackson has kept quiet about the album until now -- making it a true surprise for many. According to Bluegrass Today, the new album will include eight Jackson originals, as well as covers of the Dillards' 'There Is a Time,' John Anderson's 'Wild And Blue,' and a version of Bill Monroe's 'Blue Moon Of Kentucky.'

Earlier this year Jackson released the 'Precious Memories Volume II' album. If he continues this recording streak, he'll come out with a couple albums every year -- and 'That'd Be Alright' with his fans.
