This being Wednesday, I thought about doing something on a country music icon who had a number one song on this day. I'll call it a Waylon Wednesday.

Waylon Jennings was someone who did things his way. He was the one who earned the right to choose his own songs, producers, and the musicians who would record with him

In 1975 he won the CMA's male vocalist of the year award. After recording the album "Wanted! The Outlaws" with Willie Nelson and several others, he and Nelson continued to record duets through the 70's. They won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.

While riding high on the charts and his popularity soaring, Jennings recorded the theme for the hit TV series at the time, "Dukes of Hazzard".

In fact Jennings wrote and sang the song and was the narrator for the series.

It was on this day in 1980, the theme for the show was Number One.
