5 Stupid Things Lubbock Drivers Do

This morning as I was dropping my daughter off at school, I was sitting behind a lady that was stopped at the stop sign right there at the corner of the school. It's a busy intersection and children are frequently crossing the street - with the help of the crossing guard.

Well - today, the crossing guard was going full speed - children were flying at him in all directions. One child crossing east to west and another south to north and so on. The lady that I was behind this morning was waiting her turn while - get this...HONKING AT THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER OVER AND OVER! Seriously? Do you not see the children crossing? Do you really think the car in front of you is just sitting there to upset you? NO - she is following the directions of the big sign that the crossing guard has held up which says 'STOP'!

It never ceases to amaze me on how incredibly stupid some drivers can be - and here's the top 5 things that piss me off the most.

Merging On The Loop
Please understand that if you think you are going to merge into 60mph traffic going 20mph - you are mistaken AND you are going to cause an accident! You have a ramp and you better hit the gas and get as close to 60mph as you can! And if you can't do that - STAY ON THE ACCESS ROAD!

Turn Signals
You have a severe case of laziness if you can't raise your hand to turn on your blinker. I mean really - if your hand is already on the steering wheel then really all you have to do is move your fingers to turn the blinker on. I also feel that some people need to go to "Blinker 101" so they know when and when not to use a blinker.

Stopping Before Turning
After a conversation with a friend of mine on this very subject he stated his biggest pet peeve with drivers are those that come to a complete stop before making a right turn. I have to agree. Come on people!!! It is not necessary to stop all the way before turning onto another street or into a parking lot - of course I'm not saying that you need to take corners going 70mph - but please understand that you are disrupting the flow of traffic and your chances of getting rear-ended are increased!

Driving In The Turn Lane
Look - I know that when traffic gets crazy and you MUST make a left turn that it is somewhat easier to turn into the turning lane and then wait for an opening to jump in. But those of you that continue to drive down the turn lane thinking that someone is going to let you in is not only frustrating - it's dangerous! It's a TURN lane, not a DRIVE lane - so next time you need the assistance of the turn lane to make a left turn, you better park it buddy, because if I'm coming from the opposite direction and need the turn lane to turn - I have no problems playing "chicken" with you, and I will win!

Cell Phones & Driving
There is no greater frustration than having to share the road with another driver who is paying more attention to their cell phone than the road! Oh and let's just say that you're one of those that texts & drives while sitting a red light or a stop sign - sure you think you're not being dangerous, but you sure are being rude! Because you're not watching the traffic light, I missed the green light! Believe me, I know it is hard to be without your cell phone - but if the text message you need to send is that important, pull your car over!
